Chairman of the Trustees

David Spence was President of ICAS in 1998/1999. He chaired the ICAS Research Committee between 2005 and 2010. He was a partner in Grant Thornton UK LLP until 2006. His broad regulatory, investigations, litigation and advisory experience is backed by 30 years' involvement in corporate finance, audit and turnaround work. He has held several high profile external appointments and has also acted as a DTI Inspector on two occasions. He is now a member of the Council of Royal Holloway University of London and Honorary Treasurer of Debra UK.

Trustees

John Baillie was appointed Chair of the Accounts Commission in November 2007, having been a member since 2003.  He is also a non-executive member of the Audit Scotland Board, and has just demitted office after 9 years as a member of the Reporting Panel of the Competition Commission.  He has chaired various committees and groups for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland.  In 1983 John was appointed Professor of Accounting at the University of Glasgow.   Since 1996 he has been a visiting Professor.  He was a partner of KPMG in Scotland then London from 1978-92.  He currently advises on share valuations and litigations to court.   

Gerry Devlin is currently the Executive Director of both the Kinharvie Institute of Facilitation and the Marist Brothers (Educational Trust).  His business experience is complemented by further studies and training in leadership, psychological tools for individual/organisational development, counselling and supervision.  He has worked with a wide range of organisations in the public, voluntary and commercial sectors and is particularly committed to the support and development of not for profit organisations.

Stewart Falconer is Head of the School of Accounting, Financial Services and Law within the Business School at Edinburgh Napier University. Although most of his time is taken up in the management of his School, he maintains an academic interest in the marketing of financial services with a research focus on the influence of trust on buying behaviour within the sector. Prior to moving into academic life in 1996, Stewart worked for a number of years within Scottish Banking where he held various senior managerial positions in the legal, credit and human resources areas of the business. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland and a Chartered Banker, a Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and a Vice President of The Insurance Society of Edinburgh.

Gordon Jack retired as an audit partner in PricewaterhouseCoopers in 2005, having lead the Glasgow audit practice for a number of years. He has served on numerous ICAS committees, was a member of Council of ICAS from 2001 to 2008 and Chaired the Executive Board of ICAS from 2004 to 2007.  He is currently Chairman of the board of governors at The Glasgow Academy, and a member of the governing boards at the Scottish Council for Independent Schools and The Association of Governing Bodies of Independent Schools.

Neil Menzies is a member of Network Rail, sits on the Professional Conduct Committee of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, is a director/trustee of several Scottish charities, and is a member of the Audit Committees of Glasgow University and Voluntary Service Overseas. He has held three public appointments: as a board member of the Scottish Water and Sewerage Customers Council, the Scottish Ambulance Service and energywatch.

Susan Murray is Assistant Director of Public Affairs at the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations and a 2012 Clore Social Fellow.  Susan has studied at the University of Edinburgh and Goldsmiths College, University of London and Aberdeen Business School. She has over 15 years’ experience working in fundraising, communications, marketing and public affairs with a range of organisations on a variety of social issues. She also represents SCVO on the Scottish Funder's Forum, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations and an RSA Fellow
